Children's mattress

A child is often in bed. That is why it is important that a mattress is safe and of good quality. Consider the following criteria:

  • The mattress must be firm. Your child can not lift the mattress yourself. Your child can not come under the mattress either.
  • The mattress must fit well in the bed. You have to be able to easily put the mattress in the bed, but there should be no space between the mattress and the side walls. Otherwise your child can come between the mattress and the side of the bed.
  • The mattress must not be too soft, because then the face of your child can sink into the mattress. Your child can then suffocate. You can check yourself if the mattress is not too soft: press the mattress with your flat hand and stretched arm. You should press the mattress for a short while.
  • The mattress must be flat.
  • Never buy a mattress with a plastic cover. A disadvantage of plastic is that it is warm. A plastic mattress does not allow fresh, clean air through. Your child can suffocate as a result.
  • Do not use a mattress with granules. The head of your child is sinking away. If your child rolls on his stomach, it may suffocate.
